Laurel Falls is one of the more popular waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains. The trail takes you through oak and hemlock and offers views of Blanket and Meigs mountains. During the month of May, mountain laurel blooms in a fantastic show of white and pink.
The Laurel Falls trail is a moderate roundtrip walk of 2.6 miles. During the 1960s, this popular trail was paved to prevent erosion and is one of several trails easily accessable for strollers. This trail also offers benches and rocks for visitors to take a break.
The waterfall itself is actually two waterfalls in one. The trail cuts through the upper and lower falls with a bridge to help cross the creek.
Immediately past the falls is the Cove Mountain Firetower trail. This trail continues on for 2.9 miles and takes you through the heart of an old growth forest.
